Friendship cracks
It starts with a crack, then a cry for help
We are at opposite ends in different boats,
There are lines that keep our boats together,
I see a crack and call out to you,
“Let’s resolve this together!”
You say later,
You have other important things.
The lines are still functional.
I call again as the crack widens,
“Please,” I beg.
“Let’s talk about a plan.”
I try to put together the parts I can, but it requires the strength of two,
I enlist the help of others, but I can no longer reach your side.
You are drifting away now,
I scream: “Please hold my hand, we can still do this.”
You look and smile,
You say later.
We are opposite ends of the ocean now,
If you screamed or reached out,
I would never know.
You drifted out of sight a while ago,
It’s foggy.
I hope you are okay,
I wish you well.
It’s interesting how our boats still float,
Without being tethered to one another.
I never knew that was possible,
I guess that’s life.
